Community Space for Courage, Creativity and Health
Dedicated to the memory of Barry and Molly Adams, who gave their time, energy, and care to their community, without fanfare, concern for recognition or reward, or any other fuss.
What is Motts Corners?
Motts Corners is a small community venue focused on connecting those who have a message or a talent to share, with those who feel inspired to learn something new -- or those who want to get away from the daily stresses of life, or give an outlet to their creativity, or transform their frustrations into acts of courage. Essentially, any activity that can be done in a small group might appear on the Motts Corners agenda, if there is a leader to organize the activity and a few people at a minimum who would like to attend (and if Emily and Paulus, the owners, think it sounds like fun).

Emily and Paulus hope that Motts Corners will especially attract people who have given a lot to the community but who tend to put their own personal needs last. The givers need to be the receivers sometimes, too, because otherwise our society risks losing so many important members to burnout or illness. Teachers, political activists, health care providers, care providers with responsibilities for young children, elders, or disabled family members, civil servants, writers and artists... all these society-level caregivers deserve appreciation and "a day at the spa" to relax and restore their batteries. Emily and Paulus would like to recognize one (or more) valuable society caregivers each month, with a free individualized healing treatment, above and beyond access to the group activities described on this website. If you would like to nominate someone (or yourself) for such a treatment, please reach out.
Here are some of the activities that *might* show up on the agenda, if there is enough interest among both potential instructors and potential participants:
* taiko drumming workshops with Paulus
* healing exchanges between therapists / students
* potluck meal and social time
* dinner with international theme, involving international students at Cornell
* art therapy class
* healing sound bath (receive/experience it, or participate in making sounds)
* make political art together (posters, banners, drama...)
* cooking class
* improve your health with fun PT exercises
* improve your health with myofunctional therapy
* improve your health with acupuncture
* immigrant solidarity & mutual aid for Brooktondale
Please visit and fill out the Motts Corners survey. The survey lists a whole bunch of our ideas plus it has space for you to propose your own workshops... or just sign up for the newsletter.
Welcome to the community!

What is on the agenda?
The first activity has been planned! Our guest instructor / motivator will be Mary Milne, whose fabric art is widely known and appreciated (two of her pieces even hang in the Ithaca City Hall). See her complete works here: Mary's Collected Works, Organized.
Sewing Circles at Motts Corners for the National Quilt Project
Local fabric artist Mary Milne and her daughter Frieda Kay are launching the National Quilt Project on the National Mall in Washington DC this July 25. This widespread, grassroots effort aims to repair our torn social fabric, to help bring healing to our divided country, one square at a time. National Quilt Project
Mary would love to see a strong Ithaca showing. If you've been looking for a creative way to contribute something hopeful right now, this could be it.
You are invited to come to a sewing circle at Motts Corners to make a square for this collective project. We have gathered twice already (see photos below) and Mary will be here again Wednesday July 8 from 2 pm, and perhaps Thursday from 3 pm. Additional dates and times tbd. Come once or come more times, come for an hour or come for longer. But please do register, to help with logistics.
Please register at this link. Space is limited!
Please bring your ideas and fabric, and your own sewing machine if you wish (although several others will be available for group use). Extra fabrics, as well as tips and encouragement, will be available. A ready-made backing will also be available for a small fee, if you want to get right to work.
The sewing circles are free to attend, in keeping with the mission of Motts Corners.
For questions, please contact Mary at 607-592-1100, or Emily at 607-708-0342.
Note that the National Quilt Project will continue in communities over the next four years up to the year 2030 for a final display back in Washington.

What activities are in the pipeline?
Emily and Paulus have many ideas... but they don't know what other people might like to do, unless they get feedback! Please fill out this survey. If a particular topic generates a fair amount of interest, they will finalize the instructor, look at possible dates, send out a date/time survey to the people who expressed interest, and then get the activity on the agenda, where perhaps a few more people will see it and sign up, or add their names to a waiting list.
